REFLECTION: CHAPTER 2 (INTRODUCTION TO CALL & CMC)

Assalamualaikum n hi again!

CALL or Computer Assisted Language Learning was created in 1980's and it search for and study of the application of computer in language teaching and learning.

We were exposed on the types of CALL programs which are:

CALL Specific Software
● it designed specifically to facilitate language learning.
● can include web-based exercises, ELT-Software, games etc.

Generic Software
● refers to application designed for general purpose that includes MS-Word Processor, power point, E-Books, MS-Publisher etc.

Web-based Learning Software
● found on the internet co-opted for use as tools for language teaching and learning.
● the examples are online dictionary, online encyclopaedias, magazines and news website, blogs and wiki.

Computer Mediated Communication (CMC)
● This programs is to facilitates online communication.
● it has 2 types:
     ○ Synchronous- instant messaging, online chat such as WhatsApp, wechat, skype, irmc)
     ○ Asynchronous- email, discussion, forum and meassage boards.

Role of Computers (2T1R)
● tutor-language drills and practice.
● tool- writing, presenting and research.
● medium- global communication

Remember,
Computer technology is a teaching aids not a replacements for teachers.
